4 Ways to Unwind After a Bad Day

4 Ways to Unwind After a Bad Day

We’ve all had ‘em, and sadly those bad days are never gonna go away. Sometimes, it’s out of our control. Sometimes, we blame ourselves. But either way, it just plain ol’ sucks!

I don’t know about you, but when I’m having a bad day, I am super sensitive and am not in the mood for anyone’s BS. These are the moments when we need to look out for ourselves the most. Let’s not go doing anything that we’re gonna wish we never did, okay?

So here are some ways that you can unwind after a tough day to try and reset your mindset and your mood:

Watch Netflix

Netflix is a classic, but it can also be a slippery slope. You want to watch enough to take your mind off of things and help brighten your mood a little bit, but you don’t want to get stuck watching hours and hours of Netflix and then feel even worse about yourself later for doing so.

Use Netflix as a little break. Watch an episode of a 20-minute show (I like Friends or The Good Place), or if you have more time, watch a 40-minute show (or even a movie!) Think about what will be best for you both right now and in the future.

Talk It Out

When I have a particularly bad day, I always call up my friend and we talk it out. I tell her about and she listens, and when I want it, she’ll offer me advice.

Having someone to be there for you to listen, whether that be a friend, a significant other, someone from your family or a therapist, talking it out can take a weight off your shoulder and help you deal with the issue. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable — we all need a little love and support some times. 🙂

Self-Care Session

Show yourself a little bit of love. When you’re feeling down, who better to show a little bit of compassion than yourself! No matter what happened during your day, don’t be hard on yourself. Take a little time to show your body and your mind a little TLC.

Draw a bath, take a hot shower, listen to some music, lather yourself in coconut oil, go on a walk, read a book, start a coloring page… there are so many options! Be gentle with yourself, okay?

Go To Sleep Early

Sometimes we reach the end of our days and it’s just been so bad that the only real thing that we can do is to end it by heading to bed. There’s no shame in this! Maybe a little extra sleep is just the thing that you need to have a better day tomorrow. If you’re in bed worrying/stressing out/rethinking/overthinking/etc. about your day, save yourself the time and tell yourself to go to bed. Your future self will thank you.
